"Staines feels the sting of Tring"

Staines Swans lost a very winnable game in very much contrasting weather conditions from the last couple of weeks.
The Swans went to the in-form Hertfordshire team, optimistic in their belief they could get the result needed to secure their league status for another season.
However, with the advantage of the wind and slope in the first half the Swans only had a Lewis Pruce try and a single Chris Wells penalty to show for their efforts. With the home side keeping in touch with fly half Browne replying with a Penalty. The advantage could have been greater had Staines not lossed the naive flanker Dan Price for 10 mins in the sin bin, early in the half.

With Head coach Greg Knights demanding that the Swans kept "focused and disciplined" as the conditions started to deteriate at the start of the next 40 mins.
Crash, bang and then wallop Nat Palmer had to leave the field just as the half started forcing Knights to bring on big Junior Harrison a lot earlier than he tactically intended to.
With the home side pushing hard for the next score, it was only a matter of time that Staines well organised defensive line leaked a try. With Browne adding the extras and giving Tring a 10-8 lead. The Swans knew that they needed to secure the ball straight from the kick off. With Captain Tom Cleary leading the charge, Staines drove hard into the Tring half. Leaving referee Alexis Manly no choice but to award a penalty for offside, which Wells slotted home.
With the score at 10-11 Staines had to keep their discipline with the home side now asking all the questions going forward, with the ball in hand.
Time was now the biggest enemy to Staines, referee Manly decided the Swans prop Tom Jones was interfering at the break down and awarded the 2nd yellow card of the day to Staines. Browne calmly stepped up and kept his 100% record for the day, to claim victory for the home side.

Director of Rugby Rod Jermy quoted after the game "With only a bonus point to take back to the Reeves, Staines new that this was the second time this season that they had let Tring of the hook. Plus 6 valuable league points lost."
