Ampthill v Staines

Greg Knights head coach of Staines, was always going to have a tough day away in Bedfordshire against an on form Ampthill side. With so many key players missing due to injuries and unavailability to him.
From the first scrum Staines felt the pressure of a very determined Ampthill forward unit with ex Neath tight head Ross Davies showing they meant business.
With the Staines front row coming up the referee had no alternative but to award the home team a penalty just outside the Staines 22m. Stand off Anderson stepped up to claim the first points of the afternoon for Ampthill.

Ampthill v Staines

From then on the game was all Ampthill. Some clever back play allowed left wing Kyle Palm score the first of his 4 tries in the corner unchallenged. Staines rallied well with No8 Chris West driving hard with the ball into the home teams 22meters. Scrum half James Robinson worked hard to keep the momentum, directing the supporting players into the contact areas. The pressure paid of with Ampthill coming of there feet in the ruck. Peter Freeth calmly stepped up to bring the scores to 10-3 on the 22 minute mark.
Ampthill spurred on by a good home crowd, took the game straight back to Staines up the hill with some excellent inter play. This resulted in a try for center J Ravens in the corner.
The game was all Ampthill now, with Staines now making unforced errors in the open play. The home team duly punished The Swans with a relentless onslaught of hard running rugby the away team had know real answer to.
When on the 29th min Palm scored his 2nd try out wide from a well-judged pass of center Ravens. Jaun Mouton on his wing worked hard to cover the space, but Palms determination to score won that battle.

A change at half time saw Luke Spellen on for the injured Dan Walsh at prop.
Staines tried to take game to Ampthill. The home team now also had the advantage of the hill, were in no mood to take a step backwards.
Palm scored his 3rd try from some clever play of the set piece followed 10 mins later by his 4th try of the game and Ampthills guaranteed bonus points.
Jack Quirks bravery at full back stopped another certain try as the game was now getting away from the Swans.
Again Staines tried to go forward with prop Tom Jones breaking the gain line, only to be met by a wall of Purple and yellow.
Ampthill ran in 3 more tries late in the game to compound Staines to a miserable afternoon score line of 49-3.
